Regulations and codes applicable to construction with wood
Regulations and codes
As is the case for reinforced concrete and steel structures, the main regulation applicable to timber constructions is the Eurocode, in the case of wood, Eurocode 5 – Design of Timber Structures. The designer can find all the regulatory standards to be complied with in this code Moreover, there are other important standards such as: European Standard EN338 which establishes strength classes for all structural timber; Portuguese Standard NP 4305 for the classification of Maritime Pine wood; European Standard EN 14080 which sets the performance requirements of glued laminated and solid timber; and European Standard EN 408 which specifies test methods for determining the mechanical properties of structural timber.
